It is an elective. As such, it was a choice to be in the class. We honor our choices by being respectful, responsible, ready and do our best.
Course Description In this class, students will gain skills in one or more of the following areas: page design, advanced publishing techniques, copy writing, editing and photography while producing a creative, innovative yearbook which records school memories and events. A yearbook is considered a primary source and legal record for attendance and participation in the school. There is an emphasis on journalism skills in this class! Participants gain useful, real world skills in creative and technical writing, time management, marketing, teamwork, and design principles. Instructional Plan Students will be given challenging real-world projects and assignments typical of the graphic design and publishing industries as they relate to yearbook. High quality work is expected and students will be given opportunities to redo work prior to a deadline until it meets the standards for publishing. Classroom activities will include reading, research, art projects, and problem solving. Students may work in teams but will be expected to complete individual assignments. Assessment methods may include written exams, tests and quizzes; oral and written research reports; reading assignments; and projects. Students are expected to apply skills learned in Language Arts classes. Proper use of grammar, writing, and spelling are included as part of the grades and considerable elements in reviewing all work assigned and done in the class. |
